Old 97'sare an "alt-country" band originally based in Dallas, Texas. The group formed in 1993 and took their name from a song popularized by Johnny Cash, "Wreck of the Old '97." They describe themselves as a rock band with influences as varied as The Kinks, The Beatles, Pixies, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, and Merle Haggard. The band often performs country standards made famous by the latter two musicians, and has interspersed a number of these on their half-dozen albums over the last decade. Old 97's have been heralded as a great live band, although they claim to never rehearse their act. They included five live songs as a bonus disc on Satellite Rides, and released a live double CD set recorded at historic Gruene Hall in 2005, Alive and Wired.

What I Wouldn't Do Lyrics

Old 97's

you're cracking up on a radio in a tunnel below the city
and i'm losing you 'cause you move too slow
and i'm wishing you could keep up with me

i'm in love with you but i don't know why it gets so complicated
though you have not left you have said goodbye
and i'm wishing that we could have made it

what i wouldn't do to be friends with you
what i wouldn't do what i wouldn't do
what i wouldn't do to be friends with you
what i wouldn't do what i wouldn't do

you're tearing it up on a thunderstorm on a long red stretch of highway
and i'm wondering if i would be home
if it was anybody else's birthday

i'm in love with you but i kill myself trying to figure out how to do it
you're on a pedestal i'm on the edge of a shelf
you know i'm moving ever closer to it to you.
